Millard Public Schools: Masking Directives

In response to the Omaha “Mask Mandate,” Millard Public Schools is currently requiring masking indoors.  However, exceptions have been made for activities considered “exercise;” Show Choir falls within this category.  Therefore, we will be following an abbreviated version of the “Mask Mandate” during the competition on Saturday.

What this means:

  • All patrons inside Millard West will be required to wear a mask.
  • Singers and Wind players will be able to remove their masks from the time they enter the warm-up room until they exit the stage after their performance.
  • All directors, backstage help, crew, and non-wind instrumentalists will be required to wear a mask during warm-up and performances.
  • Judges will be instructed to not base any scores off a school’s decision to perform with or without masks.
  • Judges will also be instructed to not base any scores off of blocking as it relates to missing performers.

Please help communicate these masking requirements to your respective show choir communities before you arrive on Saturday. Thank you for your help in this matter as we do whatever we can to keep everyone safe and healthy.  These kids deserve to have their season!

By day, Kris Covi is a litigation attorney with the Dvorak Law Group. On nights and weekends, he is a touring standup comedian. As “Nebraska’s Second Tallest Comic” he entertains audiences all over the country with stories about being a 6’8” freak and growing up in Nebraska. After winning the Great American Comedy Festival as an amateur, he has won several comedy contests and was a finalist out of 450 comics at the World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas.

His love of show choir dates back to his own high school show choir experience in West Connection at Bellevue West. It was called “swing choir” back then and what few recordings exist are in a format called “Betamax”.
